Cavity Higgs-Polaritons

The authors derive hybrid light-matter excitations formed from photons and the elusive Higgs mode of superconductors. A model of a thin-film superconductor placed in a planar microwave cavity is considered. By driving a supercurrent through the thin film a substantial mixing between Higgs modes and light can be achieved. Photon tunneling through the cavity allows for a direct observation of the hybridized states.
